We’re welcoming some new members of our school community this month with the arrival of some adorable baby snails. They are Giant African Land Snails and will take approximately a year to reach their adult size of up to a staggering 14cm long!
These gentle herbivores enjoy a healthy diet of vegetables, although they do top-up with plenty of calcium, to strengthen their growing shells, in the form of cuttlefish bone. We’re keeping them nice and warm with a daily spray of water for moisture and plenty of moss to snuggle in to. They’re nocturnal so we keep them covered in order to allow them to feel safe when exploring their tank.
Did you know that snails communicate using scents and vibrations?
